ROCKLEDGE, FL — February 16, 2017 —  Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 31-year-old Brevard County manufacturer with a history of leading-edge research and development that has resulted in advanced, lean-manufacturing, cost-competitive products, which are all made in the USA, has been awarded a contract from the U.S Navy for Multilayered Shielding of High Strength Magnetic Fields


Acceleration of a launch package from an electromagnetic launcher requires the generation of high magnetic fields which creates the challenge of protecting components within the launch package from damage due to these fields. The Office of Naval Research (ONR) has awarded Mainstream the contract to develop improved magnetic shielding that will balance magnetic field shielding with weight, strength, and volume considerations. This improved shielding is necessary to protect components from the extreme magnetic fields generated during the acceleration of a launch package from an electromagnetic launcher.
