The Navy has contracted Mainstream to demonstrate their wear prevention coating for use in rotary cannons, that will increases the time between required system maintenance, while increasing reliability. These rotary cannons deliver up to 1800 rounds per minute, which creates multiple friction points leading to increased preventative maintenance and wear. Mainstream has pioneered the development of a new surface finish utilizing nanocomposite technology, which has already demonstrated benefits for reducing wear in weapon components, vehicle components, and machine lubrication applications. As part of this effort, Mainstream will demonstrate feasibility with live fire operation of the M197 rotary cannon.
