Mainstream Engineering Awarded Contract from the U.S. Department of Defense for a Pulse Power Delivery System for Rotary Wing Aircraft

ROCKLEDGE, FL – January 3rd, 2013 – Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 27-year-old Brevard County research and manufacturing company, has been awarded a contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to provide pulse power to rotary wing aircraft.

With the advent of pulse energy weapons, the transient characteristics of military aircraft power systems are changing. These new loads require power supplies that shield the pulse transient from the electrical distribution system while also being highly efficient, power dense and reliable. Under this contract, Mainstream will supply a hybrid pulse energy delivery system that is lightweight, modular and scalable to applications greater than 150 kW.

Mainstream’s solution will reduce the total system volume by 50%, lower cost by 30% and increase reliability by 20% over current solutions. Mainstream’s technology not only improves the reliability and power density of military aircraft pulse power supplies, but also has commercial power supply applications.

While many employers in Brevard County are discussing reductions in force, Mainstream had many openings in most fields of engineering. This new contract will allow Mainstream to create additional engineering and production positions.

“We must continue to advance manufacturing in the state of Florida as a means of creating good high-wage jobs. As the fourth largest state in the union, we must dramatically increase our manufacturing base. This means our technical training both in engineering and the technical trades also needs to step up to the challenge,” said Dr. Robert Scaringe, President of Mainstream.

“This new contract award is one small step in a series of ongoing job-creating programs that we are developing at Mainstream. These programs create local jobs, improve the nation’s energy efficiency, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil, all while reducing emissions and preserving the environment,” continued Scaringe.

Mainstream Engineering has a history of leading-edge research and development that has resulted in advanced, lean-manufacturing, cost-competitive products, which are all proudly made in Brevard County, Florida.
