Mainstream Engineering Awarded Contract from the Navy to Develop a Wear-Indicating Bearing

ROCKLEDGE, FL – May 9th, 2012 – Mainstream Engineering Corporation, a 25-year Brevard County research and manufacturing company, has been awarded a contract from the Navy to develop a unique bearing that accurately indicates wear.

Bearings play a crucial role in the operation of many aerospace applications. They provide connections between structural components experiencing rotating and/or misaligning motion. The inability to determine bearing wear means bearings are typically either replaced prematurely or only after a costly and dangerous catastrophic failure. Mainstream has developed a simple device that can accurately and reliably measure bearing wear resulting in time and cost savings in addition to providing improved reliability and safety.

While many employers in Brevard County are discussing reductions in force, Mainstream has seen its staff increase. This new Navy contract allows Mainstream to create additional engineering and production positions and to further advance the USA’s position as the world’s leader in advanced high-technology engineering.

While many employers in Brevard County are discussing reductions in force, Mainstream has seen its staff increase by more than 14% in the last year alone. This new Navy contract will allow Mainstream to create additional engineering and production positions.

“Given the loss of the Shuttle program on Florida’s Space Coast, we are excited to be helping convert the Space Coast to the Technology Coast. With the unparalleled concentration of advanced-degreed engineers in Brevard County, we have always been the Technology Coast and I am happy to see Mainstream bring additional technology jobs to Florida,” said Dr. Robert Scaringe, President of Mainstream. “This new Navy contract award is one small step in a series of ongoing job-creating high-tech programs that we are developing at both Mainstream and our spin-off companies. “These programs create local jobs, improve the nation’s energy efficiency and reduce our dependence on foreign oil, all while reducing emissions and preserving the environment,” continued Scaringe.

Mainstream Engineering has a history of leading-edge research and development that has resulted in advanced, lean-manufacturing, cost-competitive products, which are all proudly made in the USA.
