This effort has demonstrated a unique, patented, high-efficiency,
lubricant-free 120-ton centrifugal chiller that uses patented, dual
24,000 rpm magnetic-bearing supported centrifugal compressors. This
program has demonstrated the world's first magnetic bearing chiller
and represents significant technology advances in the areas of dynamic
control, high-speed rotating machinery and magnetic bearings. This
technology results in substantial improvements in efficiency and
the dramatic savings in both operating and maintenance costs.
This effort has incorporated other unique features, such as variable
speed control to provide load following, environmentally safe non-toxic
HFC refrigerant to improve performance, and integrated electronic
diagnostics to provide condition monitoring and predictive maintenance
capabilities.
