Summary
The Material Planner is responsible for ordering, coordinating delivery, and managing all materials needed to meet the production plan. Reducing costs, keeping lean and purchasing inventory strategically are key objectives of this position. The Materials Planner will be in constant communication with MEC's supplier base continuously monitoring supplier performance. The Materials Planner will work in the manufacturing/warehouse facility and report to the Production Director.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze material inventory levels versus current sales orders to supply manufacturing with needed materials to complete production schedule
- Create purchase orders and monitor progress of orders to ensure on time delivery to support manufacturing production schedule, expediting items where necessary
- Communicate with suppliers to ensure material quality standards are met
- Notify suppliers of material holds and follow holds through disposition
- Communicate with inventory control to ensure accurate material inventory balances
- Monitor supplier performance
- Communicate supplier feedback internally so that we may continue to improve
- Maintain inventory procurement KANBAN system
- Maintain inventory item information within MRP system
- Suggest ideas for improving inventory quality, reducing costs, and becoming leaner
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in materials management, supply chain, inventory management or similar discipline preferred
- 2+ years of material planning experience preferred
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics helpful
- Technical knowledge and background in HVAC helpful
- Strong communication, computer, problem solving, and data analysis skills
